Team Long-term Three-year Goal
To develop a team to take
one of the top three spots at the regional tournament, thus, advancing to the
state tournament. The team will require full support for funding of training
materials, mentors, and coaches.

To develop a team of
students to rank top 15 at the regional tournament. The team will require full
support for funding of training materials, mentors, and coaches.

Team 2013-2014 Initiatives
Recruit at
least 15 committed students for the 2014 tournament.
a. (Completed) Ensure support
from Principal Grissom for the team. Below are some options for how he can help
get the team established.
i. Publically identify the MVHS Science Olympiad team
is in accordance with the school goal to enhance opportunities for students in
science, technology, engineering, and math.
ii. Ask the science teachers to recommend students who
might be good at this type of competition, and/or
iii. Ask the science teachers to announce in class that
the Science Olympiad team is recruiting members for the 2013-2014 tournament,
and/or
iv. Have Principal Grissom announce in science classes
that the Science Olympiad team is recruiting members for the 2014 tournament.

announcements about team recruiting.
c. (Completed) Participate in
the MVHS Club Arena days

Obtain a science teacher as the advisor for the team (Dr. Ning).
Funding for
training materials and equipment for competition
a. (Completed) Gain financial
support from the MVHS administration, PTSA, and corporate sponsors for training
materials such as practice activities, practice tests, and practice equipment
such as lab coats and goggles.
b. (In Progress) Solicit local
businesses, corporations, and parents for funding in exchange for advertising
on an official MVHS Science Olympiad t-shirt (if enough funds are available),
and/or advertising on a MVHS Science Olympiad website. (As an example, see the
MVHS robotics team website.)
c. (In Progress) Accept a $25
donation from students when they officially register with the club including
parental notification.
Training and
Preparation
a. (In Progress) Hold weekly
lunchtime meetings to train for the tournament.
b. (In Progress with Workshop Weekends) As the
tournament gets closer, we’ll also meet at least once per week in the evening.

Obtain at least one coach for the team (Mrs. and Mr. Wood).
d. (In Progress) Obtain
additional coaches and mentors for as many subjects as possible.
Community
Service
a. (Completed) Participate in
the MVHS STEM day event as speaker greeters and doing a demonstration
booth during lunch.
b. (In Progress) Volunteer as
judges for a local elementary science fair.
c. (In Progress) Volunteer
as mentors to a local jr. high school Science Olympiad team.
